Cruelty-free, nutritious and delicious, a vegan diet comes loaded with a ton of benefits.
If you have made up your mind to opt for plant-based meals — either as a permanent lifestyle choice or as part of the wholesome 31-day veganuary challenge — here’s a little assistance to get you started.

1. Give yourself time
Veganism is a lifestyle — one that you get accustomed to step by step.
For most people, switching to a vegan diet isn’t an overnight process; it might take some time. You can start by cooking your homemade meals to be vegan, and not being as strict when you go out to eat (or when you order in - thanks covid-19). Plan an easy vegan breakfast or lunch and then go from there. Focus on various vegan foods — your daily vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts, grains, etc. — that you are familiar with.

2. Look for substitutes
Not starting veganuary, just because you can’t give up on all those dairy products and yummy desserts? That’s not a problem. You can always search for substitutes to satisfy your cravings. There’s a vegan substitute for almost anything. Even cheese! Yes, you heard it right! You can make your vegan cheese at home. Remember that your body needs its daily nutrition intake. Bit by bit, replace your animal-based products with them.

3. Be prepared to do some research
It’s not just about switching to a vegan diet and eliminating meat, eggs and dairy products. You need to be fully aware of all the nutritional requirements. A balanced diet is necessary for which you require information about all the foods that complete a vegan diet i.e. vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, proteins, and don’t lead to any deficiency in the body. So as you complete veganuary, read lots of content about your new diet.
Additionally, watch out for non-vegan ingredients. If you haven’t been checking ingredient labels while shopping, your life is about to change (they say one recognises a vegan at the store because they are reading the ingredient labels). Many products such as chocolate and crackers contain animal products that one would never expect.

4. Be aware of nutritional deficiencies (that can also exist in omnivore diets)
As you embark on your new vegan lifestyle, you need to be aware of nutritional deficiencies. Some nutrients such as vitamin B12, vitamin D, Omega-3, and Iron are mostly found in products that come from animals or animal-based products. Nutritionists recommend vegans to supplement their diet with either food supplements or by eating fortified foods. We know that sounds a bit dull, and not very fun - but thankfully we’ve got a healthy and delicious solution for you with our nutrient-rich cookies (aka the most nutritious-dense snack in the world).

5. Surround yourself with people following a vegan diet
If you are the first one in your circle trying out veganuary, then don’t step back just because nobody else is doing it around you. Find people on the internet who are following a vegan diet or starting veganuary. Join Facebook groups and find a network of other vegans online who can motivate you and guide you in this transition. Interact with people on different blog posts and join this awesome community.

These are just some of the tips and tricks that you can follow to get started on your vegan journey. Hopefully, this will make your transition easier and also help you in taking the initial step.
